The CM Global English (CMGE) assessment provides an authentic snapshot in time of how well your K to Grade 12 and adult learners whose first language is not English, are expected to cope in a learning environment where English is the medium of instruction. To be successful learners, students should be able to understand what is read and heard in the classroom and should be able to clearly and accurately express themselves.

As a CMGE B2B or B2G partner in student learning, your school or institution will have a unique web address, your logo – branded landing page and your own dashboard where you will find assessment reports, additional complimentary assessments, and many complimentary educational and instructional resources.

Use any web browser. The assessment works on both PCs and Apples and on computers or tablets.

From your unique browser address, your landing page opens and the students log in with their assessment access codes. They check their sound quality, read the simple instructions, and then work through each part of the assessment, logging out when completed. It’s that simple.

Secondary, Intermediate, and Late Primary assessments are each age appropriate, but the format remains similar.

The assessment is very easy to use, for both the student and the administrator. Results are instant.

English Usage

Semantics, Lexicon, and Grammar

Knowledge of Standard English semantics, lexicon, and grammar is assessed. Such knowledge is an indication of prior exposure to formal and informal English.

Reading

Syntactical understanding

The assessment provides a measure of syntactical understanding to navigate and comprehend age appropriate, English text. The assessment uses fiction and non-fiction passages, each within a range of readability difficulty.

Listening

Receptive understanding

English listening comprehension is measured by responding to oral questions, statements, and commands of increasing difficulty. Components are based on realistic scenarios encountered in daily social and classroom life.

Writing

A writing sample is created on randomly selected, familiar topics. The selection of topics varies according to the student (Primary, Middle School, Secondary, or Continuing Education).

Assessment Reporting & Resources

Your CMGE dashboard gives you live-time student assessment results. You can fetch and download PDF assessment reports by individual or by other criteria. In addition, the day’s reports are sent to you as PDF attachments.

From your dashboard, you can also access a number of supplemental assessments and many learning and teaching resources, all available at no additional cost.
