The CMGE Assessments

The CM Global English (CMGE) assessment provides an authentic snapshot in time of how well your K to Grade 12 and adult learners whose first language is not English, are expected to cope in a learning environment where English is the medium of instruction. To be successful learners, students should be able to understand what is read and heard in the classroom and should be able to clearly and accurately express themselves.

As a CMGE B2B or B2G partner in student learning, your school or institution will have a unique web address,  your logo – branded landing page, and your own dashboard where you will find assessment reports, additional assessments, and many educational resources, all at no additional cost.

Use any web browser. The assessment works on both PCs and Apples and on computers or tablets.

From your unique  browser address, your landing page opens and the students log in with their assessment access codes. They check their sound quality, read the simple instructions, and then work through each part of the assessment, logging out when completed. It’s that simple.

Secondary, Intermediate, and Late Primary assessments are each age appropriate, but the format remains similar.

Secondary

Grades 8 – 12

The Secondary assessment (Grades 8 to 12) is a comprehensive assessment with four sub-measures: English usage, reading syntax, listening, and a writing sample. The full assessment typically takes approximately 60 t0 90 minutes to complete.

Intermediate

Grades 4 – 7

The Intermediate (Grades 4 to 7) is similar to the Secondary assessment but shorter and with age appropriate topics for the reading and listening sub-measures. It is a comprehensive assessment with four sub-measures: English usage, reading syntax, listening, and a writing sample. Typical time to complete the assessment is 40 to 60 minutes.

Late Primary

Grades 2 – 3

The Late Primary (Grades 2 and 3) is similar to the Secondary assessment in being a comprehensive assessment with four sub-measures: English usage, reading syntax, listening, and a writing sample. Early Primary

Kindergarten & Grade 1

You have three choices in choosing the Early Primary assessment: an Early Primary assessment for Kindergarten and Grade One, a Kindergarten assessment, or a Grade One assessment. These additonal assessments provide more information on the student’s English knowledge, if warranted after the Listening assessment is completed.
