The CM Global English (CMGE) assessment provides an authentic snapshot in time of how well your K to Grade 12 and adult learners whose first language is not English, are expected to cope in a learning environment where English is the medium of instruction. To be successful learners, students should be able to understand what is read and heard in the classroom and should be able to clearly and accurately express themselves.
As a CMGE B2B or B2G partner in student learning, your school or institution will have a unique web address, your logo – branded landing page and your own dashboard where you will find assessment reports, additional assessments, and many educational resources, all at no additional cost.
Use any web browser. The assessment works on both PCs and Apples and on computers or tablets.
From your unique browser address, your landing page opens and the students log in with their assessment access codes. They check their sound quality, read the simple instructions, and then work through each part of the assessment, logging out when completed. It’s that simple.
Secondary, Intermediate, and Late Primary assessments are each age appropriate, but the format remains similar.
Standard English
Written semantics and grammar are assessed. Knowledge of English morphology, semantics, and grammar are an indication of the student’s prior exposure to formal and informal English.
Reading
Comprehension of fiction and non-fiction passages, ranging in reading difficulty, is assessed, This provides a measure of the student’s syntactical understanding to navigate and comprehend a text within their age range.
Listening
The student responds to oral questions, statements, and commands of increasing difficulty. Questions are based on realistic scenarios that a student may encounter in daily home and classroom life.
Writing
The student produces a writing sample by writing about a randomly selected, familiar topic. The writing topic prompt changes according to the age of the student (Primary, Intermediate, Secondary, and Continuing Education).
Assessment Reporting & Resources
Your CMGE dashboard gives you live-time student assessment results. You can fetch and download PDF assessment reports by individual or by other criteria. In addition, the day’s reports are sent to you as PDF attachments.
From your dashboard, you can also access a number of supplemental assessments and many learning and teaching resources, all available at no additional cost.
